They made an enduring name for themselves in the 8th through the 11th centuries for being tactical warriors, smart traders, and daring explorers.   Facts about Ragnar Lothbrok Ragnar Lothbrok "Vikings"    The real Ragnar Lothbrok seems to be a composite of a number of warriors and is difficult to separate from the myth.    It is belived that the main inspiration behind the legend was a particularly vicious Viking King known as Reginheri, who hanged over one hundred Christians after he successfully laid siege to Paris in the year 845. Ragnar got his nickname from his cowhide pants that he wore while fighting against a serpent that breathed poison.    Ragnar had three wives: Lagertha, Aslaug and Thora Town – Hart. His wives gave him many sons, the most famous ones being: Björn Ironside, Sigurd Snake in the eye, Ubbe and Ivar the Boneless.
